Thank you Mike. There’s a book that was published in the last couple of years that focuses on a mt. lion who traveled from the Black Hills in South Dakota to Connecticut. I didn’t realize that pumas were released in Oklahoma

You mentioned some experience w cougars also. You might like this anecdote. I have a close friend in Tulsa w the USWildlife Department which is also co-employed w Okla Fish and Wildlife. He told me a story few years ago about a cougar- RE-introduction in Okla. The state of Missouri had an overly successful breeding program and gave Okla F& W eight young cougars. All 8 were micro-chipped. Two got radio collars. All8 got ear tags. All 8 were released in a state wildlife refuge area in southern Oklahoma.

One of the ear-tagged and chipped pumas was taken (legally) by a hunter FIVE years later. Guess where? South Dakota! Pretty long walk and countless numbers of road and river crossings. Amazing cat.

Should have been “domestic cats”, not cars

Hi. This is A sad but not terribly unusual story. We live in Tulsa and have had two pet bobcats. ( full feral, wild-caught parents )
Only two vets in Tulsa would accept them in their practice because their metabolism is completely different from domestic cats. Interbreeding w Bobcats is very unusual but does happen. Many bobcats and cougars have been killed during rescue operations because they were treated like domestic cars regarding dosage of antisthetics. If you haven’t already, you should try to find a vet w this specific specialty (exotic cats and animals) The same vet will probably be able to handle your average domestic animals as well. So sorry to hear of the loss of your female kitten. Our last male Bobcat became a state record in Okla for oldest
( longest life) on record— 23 years. “Echo” went to over 309 soccer games in his lifetime and probably 100 Cub Scout/Boy Scout meetings, science classes, etc. Still miss him every time I look outside at his old pen (RE-purposed tenni court)

Probably barely 4 weeks old. Sweetest things ever! Our vet said she thought they had bobcat in them. Had them spayed and neutered at 6+ months. The female had a reaction to morphine and died from brain damage. Her brother had a tough time with recovery but is fine. Her thoughts were that having an animal with possible bob cat in them, that maybe why they had issues with anesthesia. Something that type of cat cant handle. We miss her every day and brother getting big paws and getting big for being approx. 10 months

Sadly, late last year, a female mountain lion who used to be a regular on the trail died from secondary rodenticide poisoning. I wrote an article about second-generation rodenticides: https://urbanedgewildlife.org/rat-poisons-arent-selective/
